The return window
- Most merchandise can be returned within 90 days with proof of purchase, unless it's listed as an exception.
- Paid with The Home Depot Consumer Credit Card, Pro Xtra Credit Card (Commercial Revolving Charge) or a Home Depot Commercial Account? You get 365 days for a full refund — except the 48-hour, 7-day and 30-day items below.
- Home Depot can decline returns of items the customer damaged (with no manufacturing defect), or to prevent fraud or abuse.
30-day items
- Furniture, tractors, framing and roofing compressors, consumer electronics (TVs and computers), paint sprayers, and gas-powered trimmers, blowers, chain saws, mowers, augers, tillers, chippers and log splitters. These must be unused, in original factory-sealed packaging.
- New as of July 7, 2026: Halloween and holiday decor must come back within 30 days, unused, with proof of purchase.
7-day and 48-hour items
- 7 days: dehumidifiers, gas pressure washers, window and portable air conditioners, gas generators (not whole-house or stationary) — unused and factory-sealed. Since July 7, 2026, pumps, portable evaporative coolers and portable heaters too.
- 48 hours: major appliances — refrigerators, washers, dryers, ranges, dishwashers and over-the-range or built-in microwaves, even unopened. Report damage or defects to Customer Solutions at 1-800-455-3869 within 48 hours of delivery (weekends excluded).
Plants
- Most plants can be returned within 90 days. Perennials, trees, roses and shrubs have a 1-year guarantee and can be returned for store credit.
